Change is the basis of novelty. One can bring in new concepts and ideas only when one is ready to change. Rotary club of pune Heritage decided to pioneer a new idea in pune Ganeshotsav this year.Ganapati festival this year came on the backdrop of acute water shortage. On this note we approached people with a new concept of donating their idol rather than immersing in water. All the rituals were to be followed as it is but rather than immersing the idol in water, people were asked to donate it ti us. We assured them that the idols would be stored properly and sold and the fund that would be raised would be donated to Matoshri Vruddashram, to serve the lone elders there. We implored to people that once they perform the Uttarpuja the Godliness in the idol is over. So immersing the idol in water they should donate it to us. Pune is known for bringing change and for upholding new ideas. We got a huge response to our request from active punekar and also from suburb area of pune. we almost collected 2000 idols. People not only participated in the project willingly,they also convinced their friends, neighbours to follow this. We used mass media to introduce the concept to people and propagate the idea hugely. Watsapp, facebook, Emailers were all used to reach maximum number of people in short duration. Maharashtra Times, Samana, Lokmat and Loksatta also give good coverage to this unique project. Even TV channel also note it. We are encouraged by this huge response and glad that Rotary Club Of Pune Heritage pioneered this new idea and exhibit environment consciousness which is the the primary need of today!
